This is a personal motion graphics project combining kinetic typography and 3D elements in Adobe After Effects, designed to create an atmospheric lyric video with an idea I had with the song "Close To You" by Gracie Abrams.
When I first listened to the song I thought it sounded quite atmospheric and had this cinematic vibe I kept connecting it with, and since the song was so addicting, I could not stop thinking about possible lyric video concept scenes. I kept envisioning a film camera projecting grainy, moody, and slightly blurry scenes with the lyrics near it that matched the songs tone as well as a mix of this playful not complex but colorful karaoke style portrayed in the official lyric video in other ones. I sketched out concepts in my notes over time, imagining how different parts of the song could come to life visually since I knew that I would want to come back to this idea in the future. Eventually, I brought it to reality through this motion graphics project.
I’m considering creating an extended version in the future, as I initially wanted it to reach the end of the chorus. However, the process took longer than expected, especially as most of the scenes I had planned for the rest of the song included more major 3D scenes, so I’ve put that on hold for now.
The 3D models used in the video were originally sourced from Sketchfab and modified by me for the final visual:
✦ Film Projector - AleixoAlonso
✦ Vintage Wooden Table - Poring
✦ Old Books - Šimon Ustal
✦ Bankers Lamp - Zgon
